About Lisa

04-about-Lisa-Riehl.jpg

Lisa Riehl is an impressionistic landscape artist from the Victoria area of Vancouver Island.  Inspired by the dramatic landscapes around her, she has translated her passion for hiking, surfing and her love of nature onto canvas.

Lisa's landscape paintings reflect her love and fascination with nature and the gorgeous scenery all around her. It's easy for Lisa to drive for only 15 minutes and feel like she is in the middle of nowhere.  She goes almost everywhere with a camera and is always taking photos of scenes that inspire her (and if she’s hiking with others, she’s always lagging behind taking all those photos!).  Once home in her studio Lisa then uses these photos and the impressions she felt while she was there as references for her brightly coloured oil + acrylic paintings.

Lisa is self-taught, but has learned much from the numerous painting workshops she has participated in, and the many incredible instructors have helped contribute to her unique style.  She became an associate member of the Federation of Canadian Artists (AFCA) in 2011 and has been in many juried art shows, including FCA shows (both in Vancouver and Victoria), the Sooke Fine Art Show and the Sidney Fine Art Show.  Lisa has also been invited to be a jury member for select art shows.

Artist’s Statement

I have always been inspired by Nature. I love to simplify what I’m seeing and translate it into the feeling of being outside with nothing between me and nature, the feeling of tranquility and vibrancy. Nature’s beauty is all around us to see, touch and hear. It has a way of affecting our moods and it can help us change our way of thinking for the better, from negative to positive. I believe that being exposed to this beauty can have a positive effect on our lives, in the way we look at things and the way we feel about ourselves. Perhaps my paintings can help bring this feeling of wonder and peace to others.

Each painting I create feels like a poem that is made visible. I can’t just give them boring names - they deserve so much more! So I title each painting with a phrase that, at least to me, evokes incredible meaning in my heart.

I love this quote from Pablo Picasso:  “The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.”

I give you my heART and soul 💕
