I seek to create paintings that speak to others as strongly and as passionately as they spoke to me while I was creating them. When I am painting, I feel this amazing energy! Sometimes it’s enough to keep me awake at night, my mind and imagination going at a furious pace. New ideas are flying at me every day, sometimes proving to be quite a distraction from what I am currently working on. I often have 5 to 6 paintings on the go, in various stages of completion. I love using texture and am constantly experimenting with new ways of layering texture and colour. I am a self-taught artist, although I have had the help of a few great teachers in workshops I have taken. I started painting seriously in 2003, when a move to Sooke to a house with a studio enabled me to finally have the space to paint. I use my love of photography to capture moments that I then paint – I go almost everywhere with my camera. I paint in acrylic and I have a few styles that I love to play and experiment with – bold and colourful, realistic, collage and mixed media.
